Update: Now available in the Asset Store =) Buy Link to Asset Store (set to $50 for a very limited period of time)
I’ve just finished my Unity project “SPACE UNITY - Space Scene Construction Kit” and it’s my first large scale package for Unity. It took many nights of painting art assets and developing the editor scripts… but it’s finally done =)
I also put together a video to showcase (best viewed in HD)
Thank you very much! I’m also glad you mentioned about the presentation because I was hoping to create a video that showcased what the asset is all about =)
Great! I’ve had the plan to make this for some time and finally I managed to get the time to do it… even if it was mostly during nights =) The introductory price is set to $50 for a very limited time! I haven’t decided on the final price yet but it’ll probably be around the $100 mark.
Those games are my inspiration! I’ve been trying to hard to shun graphics and eye candy in favor of getting core mechanics working. It’s now feeling like with some mission structure (which i’m working on currently) it’ll be more or less a functional game. Then comes the pretty stuff. This Space Scene kit will save me weeks of effort!
I haven’t tested it on iOS yet (I have an iPad, but I haven’t looked into how to compile to it) - but I did run a quick test on my Android phone (Samsung Galaxy S3.) Quite a decent performance (40-50fps) even with thousands of alpha faded particles and 200+ fading asteroids - all with diffuse + bump maps. You can see a video of the test here:
With some tweaking and reducing particle effects I think performance will be quite good with 60fps and some overhead. The one thing that didn’t render was the volumetric atmospheres - I’ll have to look into that.
Are you referring to the “space fog” - that is the faint clouds that swoosh past the spaceship as you fly? If so, then yes. Everything seems to render on mobile except the volumetric atmospheres around the planets which I will look in to.
Not in this release, it was just a quick test to see if it worked after it had been submitted to the asset store. But I will include a scene and scripts for Android in the next update, probably this week.
Thanks mate - fixed the link. Unity had to change the name of the product to “SPACE for Unity” because of naming violation making Unity a part of the actual name… Wasn’t aware of that unfortunately - but a heads-up for everyone else. Since the name changed, the URL changed automatically too. Thanks for letting me know!
