There is only one unity engine, it’s the unity3d, is that correct? There isn’t a seperate unity2d engine, correct?
Thanks all.

Correct. The 2D tools are built into Unity(Unity3D).
Thanks so much! Also, what about personal, plus and pro? Are they only different in the licensing terms? All the software tools are the same, correct? I could download the personal unity3d now, and upgrade the license later on if necessary, right?
The tools are all the same, the differences are basically services you’ll never really use, pro skin, and bigger budget limits.
Even if you have super ultra pro edition, you simply download the free installer, then punch in your super ultra pro license key just like joe the beginner would punch in his noob free key. Its literally the same stuff. You’ll be using the same tools as all the other guys regardless of license.
In the current bussiness model there’s no big differences between Personal edition and the others (at least in terms of engine features). The other editions get you tons of additional things, support, courseware, free assets, etc. but you can do the same with both, meaning you can work with the personal edition until you have a complete product for example. You can also publish your product and make money with the personal edition until you reach a certain revenue (over $100,000 USD i think). After that you need a professional edition.
Thank you. One last question, I’m gonna download the personal edition, and use it during development. But right before the game is published, I’m going to upgrade to Plus (not Pro), will I be able to update the license, and get rid of the “Personal Edition” wordings in the splash screen?
Yes you can do that
Yes, but there is a 12 month agreement to Pro subscriptions.
If you make over 100,000 USD/year you are required to use Plus / Pro. If you make over 200,000 USD/year you are required to use Pro.
I’ll be using personal edition during development, once the game is completed, before publishing to the iOS AppStore and Google Play store, I’ll upgrade to Plus.
Q: When signing up for Plus, will my credit card be chaged for the entire year? Or just $35 USD? I know there is a 1-year commitment minumium, will they simply charge my credit card monthly for $35? Or the entire year at the time of signing up?
They will charge your card monthly for a year.
Okay, I’ve been doing a lot reading about unity now, and the splash screen is the most confusing. I don’t mind the game showing “made with unity” splash screen just before it starts, but in personal editon, does the splash screen also say “Personal Editon”?
