Just trying to get the Web player working.

I am trying to get the Web player working but it won’t take to Firefox. The installer runs instantly and says success but the download page doesn’t recognize anything and of course the game doesn’t run. The game I want to play is “Pixel Warfare” on Paco games. I have tried uninstalling Firefox and reinstalling and also restarting my computer. If this is not the right place please kindly direct me where to ask for help…

I’d also like to know if I can skip the whole Webplayer/Firefox problem by running the game through some other unity application directly (would need to connect online)

But according to the WebPlayer download page you should not have any issues downloading and installing the WebPlayer for Firefox.
It even says:
Unity Web Player for Windows
Internet Explorer, Firefox, Safari, Opera

See…it says it works with Firefox.

Let’s spend some more hours figuring out why it won’t work.

Firefox dropped support for running plugins like the WebPlayer, a LONG time ago.

Knowing that…

UNITY, PLEASE UPDATE THE WEBPLAYER WEBSITE WITH TECHNICAL INFORMATION SO PEOPLE DON’T HAVE TO WASTE HOURS TRYING TO INSTALL A WEBPLAYER THAT WILL NOT WORK IN FIREFOX.

Sorry for the caps and large font, but hopefuly someone from Unity will realize the webplayer does not work with Firefox (nor has it for over a year now). And hopefully the website can be updated with some information explaining this to people.

But, try to install it for IE. The last I knew, it still worked with IE.

Sorry for your troubles. We’ll have the site updated to reflect the current state of browser support.

Thank you for the information! I hate to use IE just to play a game but you are right, the player does work on IE.

That would be nice, thank you.

The site still lists Firefox as being compatible. It’s disappointing that we have to dig through the forum to find out it doesn’t work and that the official download page has incorrect information.

Edit: It also appears as though Opera is reporting the “Sorry, Google Chrome can’t run this app” message, even though it’s not Chrome. Is the web player just completely dead now?

*Internet Explorer does appear to still work…for now.

Opera is based on the Chromium project so their plugin support is the same as Chrome aka none.

The only browser left are IE11 and Safari (who will also stop their support at some point) so it is not exactly soaring.

How’s that status update coming along?
Pretty sad to see asset store items suggested to me, only to find out that their demo is with the old plugin rather than HTML 5 … but it adds insult when you are still directing people to Firefox who has also done what they warned about 18 months ago and disabled that type of plugin

They updated the web page a while ago to indicate the webplayer only works with IE.
Now the time people would spend trying to figure out why the webplayer doesn’t work can now be used for learning and using Unity instead!
