kernel mode debugger

I have problem with run Unity.
On start I have error message:
‘A kernel mode debugger installation has been detected. Please uninstall for correct operation.’
And this is all what i see :frowning:
My system is Win XP Professional SP3.

sounds like you have one of the common “cracker debuggers” installed (normal devs don’t need black ice etc).

You can decide if you want to uninstall that one or want to uninstall unity, but both together will not work

cracker debuggers?
I don’t have any cracker’s programs on my work computer.
To debug my net projects I use ServiceCapture and Charles.

I add attachment with my run process. Tlen.exe - my communicator like AIM, apple software like itunes, NOD antyvirus, LG web camera, UltraVNC - and a few standard process.

Hi Akura,

This message is coming from the licensing system (PACE). The message is not saying that a kernel mode debugger is running, just that your system has one installed (or perhaps had one installed). If your machine has never had such software installed on it (for example, you have had the machine from new and have never installed any software that might be used for inspecting running applications) then all I can suggest is that you back up your system and then re-install your OS. Of course I realize that this could be highly disruptive for you, but if you want to run Unity on this machine I am afraid it is the only solution. (If we contact Pace on your behalf, this will be what they suggest.)

Sorry I don’t have better news for you.

Kind regards,
Graham

The system process list won’t show kernel mode debuggers.

They act outside the common for the very purpose to break “through things” that are otherwise untouchable.
Thats why they are commonly and widely used to crack / hack software and their security measures.

Perhaps you have / had a cheat tool or unlock tool installed that installed it as part of its own installation

I had the same message and I simply turned off my kernel debugger. Not sure if you have the same problem or still have it but if anyone runs across same message that has vista or above simply running the cmd bcdedit -debug off then reboot does the trick.

hope that helps someone.

Hello there.

Can someone give an example of a debugger, like example names of such programs. I do not recall having installed a debugger on my system.

Well guess what. On a very lonesome Friday night, I found the solution for the kernel debugger error message. Here is the fix for it (for Windows XP Pro):

  1. On the command line, type MSCONFIG then press Return.
  2. Click on the boot.ini tab.
  3. Uncheck the /DEBUG tick box and click on Apply.
  4. Restart your computer.
  5. Unity should now work.
