Keyboard input not working in Unity 5.5.1

With the latest version of unity 5.5.1f1 Input from the keyboard seems to be broken.

From a new project if a create an object an place this script that checks for Input.GetButtonDown(“Vertical”) and Input.anyKeyDown. When i hit play i will only get the a response from anyKeyDown and then only from a mouse press, the keyboard has no effect.

I hope someone can help with this.

Cheers
Pete

        }

        // Update is called once per frame
        void Update ()
        {
            if(Input.GetButtonDown("Vertical"))
            {
                Debug.Log("Vertical Key Down");
            }

I’m on the same version and it doesn’t seems like I have the issue.

Are you sure you have an Input named Vertical?

Yep i used the default project and the keyboard dosnt trigger the anyKeyDown ether, one thing i did find is my artiest is using windows 7 64 bit and it works for him but i’m running windows 10 and it dosnt work for me.
This only happens in the editor, if i create a standalone build it works.

under the defaults, “Vertical” is an axis, not a button
