knees bobbing when Foot IK ticked

hello again. see if anyone can help with this one.

knees are bobbing when foot IK is enabled. when not enabled, no more knee bobbing, however, feet become kind of wider apart, which looks bad.

what am i using? daz to blender (then to unity) rig, mixamo animations brought over with mixamo Xbot character rig. humanoid. everything comes in perfectly and works perfectly automatically, but then when i tick foot IK, the knees bob like they are twitching during each walk cycle.

obviously something is pulling the feet closer in than they want to be, but what? and why? is my characters legs too long? they dont seem too long to me. is this a problem with the daz rig? (yeah i know, what the hell is daz, ok forget that one), (ill try testing my NPC MakeHuman rig next…)

regardless, what would cause knees with IK feet to do this? any ideas? and does anyone have any experience fixing this in blender? like, for example, bringing the mixamo animations into blender and moving the feet lower down? or pelvis up? where to begin with this? hi Unity devs.

thanks

edit: i believe it has something to do with pole targets, or a lack thereof. is there any sort of built-in solution to handle this?

ok so this is obviously a huge issue dealt with every developer who has ever used unity. ticking on foot IK causes even the main tall ugly unity avatar’s knees to pop out to the sides when walking. so i know this has nothing to do with my rig. this also appears to have nothing to do with the legs fully extending, since it occurs while the knees are bent a little… ive read through lots of documentation, but im not finding anything about handling this. unless every single animation file from mixamo is broken, there appears to be something wrong with the default mecanim foot IK.

since no one seems to have a clue, i went ahead and helped myself. i stumbled across a 2 year old “preview package” (??) of a not-included animation package which seems to have IK pole targets called “hints” which appear to address this issue.

does anyone know if this additional package is really necessary, or if adding a simple IK “hint” can be done without?
