So, I’m currently moving over to Unity3D because I feel this Engine is better compared to NeoAxis and it has a bigger community.
However, I was making a small map in the Editor, and I had lots of tree’s and grass, there was no lag while playing the simulation in the editor. However when I build the game and play the small demo my FPS starts to crawl. My FPS is at 9 while playing the exported demo. I even turned all the graphics on low and there was still lag.
I would really love to use this engine for future projects. Thanks.
It’s probably because of poor optimization.
If you’re using Unity Free then it doesn’t have LOD, Occlusion Culling, and you can’t use the Profiler.
But you can start by turning on the Rendering Statistics Window and then reading Optimizing Graphics Performance. It should give you a better idea of what is causing your problems.
My current screen resolution is 1024 x 768. However when I have my resolution set for that when launching my game, it lags. But when it’s anything lower than that. It doesn’t.
Can you talk in amounts of FPS? and maybe post a screenshot of your editor in play mode with the stats visible?
Also, be sure your player setting used in the editor is the same as your player. (you can check this by going to Edit>Project Setting>Quality) the green box in your quality settings is the one you have currently selected for that platform.
For some reason you’re having 3388 DrawCalls, without any shadow casters.
The link to the image of your small screen seems broken!
My guess is that you could at least benefit from using “CombineChildren” on a few objects.
CombineChildren can combine multiple objects that use the same mesh and material, so to use CombineChildren i’d try to group as many identical objects as possible and add them to an empty parent object, then add the script CombineChildren (from standard assets/scripts) to that parent.
Hopefully that will give you a head start!
Not to take off into sounding offensive, but have you even tried it?
Also how I described it really is all there’s too it. one more time, most complete tutorial on using CombineChildren EVER:
Import the Standard Asset Scripts to your project, add all similar objects under one parent, and give this parent the CombineChildren script. really, that’s it.
step-by-step breakdown:
so:
Open: Assets > Import Package > Scripts
Group all similar objects (with the same materials and/or mesh) under one parent (this is done in the Hierarchy!)
Select this object and select from the menu Component > Mesh > CombineChildren, OR drag the script from Standard Assets/Scripts/Utility Scripts/CombineChildren on to the parent (in your Hierarchy)
I tired to do this, but in Uniyt 4.5 Mac, I didn’t get Utility Scripts folder with Scripts Package, there are only two folder 1st is General Scripts and 2nd is Camara Scripts in Scripts Package.
