Laptop Question: which is better? Should i Buy?

I’m looking to buy a new laptop,

I currently have a

I’m looking to buy a

Both have a

So my question which computer is better? I would assume the one I plan to buy because the processor but everything else is pretty much the same should i buy?

Proboly not it is already 2 generations of CPU out of date? soon to be 3.

Obviously the second one is better, but it’s not much of an upgrade at all as titanty has already stated. Is there a reason you need a laptop? or would you be able to do with a desktop?

And a 160GB HDD is useless when you’re making games. Space there = practically none.

my game is sub 15megabytes , but all of my stuff sence game dev has got my 500gb hdd into the red on windows 7

Don’t bother, both GPU’s are 4-5 years old, and a .3GHz boost you will NOT notice. What you will notice is that measily 2GB ram, don’t go for less than 4GB if you’re planning on x64 (64-bit OS)

I need a better machine as people have pointed out, i’ve had this latop since 2007, it gets me by because i have an external HDD. Yes i need a laptop I travel alot trust me i’d love a desktop… I’m searching on ebay for better suggestions.

The second laptop seems to have a slightly worse video card than the first, from a cursory look at notebookcheck.net.

Are you choosing between them, or is the first one your current laptop? If so, there’s no point buying the second one.

$800, the graphics card isn’t anything special (about equal to entry level desktop cards) but that’s almost to be expected in laptops.

first is current and thats what thought I wasn’t sure however im currently looking at this, I would like to keep costs under $300 but if not possible under $40

I dont need a top of the line machine, who am i kidding yeah I do but I cannot afford one so I just want a good one. This seems nice!

Might want to research that one a bit. The graphics card is better but Celerons are very low end.

You might want to research the going rate of your current laptop, unless it’s breaking down you don’t really want to end up buying something worse or just marginally better.

Your laptop is only slightly worse than my current main one (an 8400M G) and I’m currently in the market soon for an upgrade too, but I’ve looked and I can’t get a significantly better laptop until I hit at least the ~$800 price point (brand new). You might want to try reformatting and updating the drivers on your current laptop first before considering an upgrade with that budget to see if anything’s slowing it down, and see if you can defer upgrading until you have at least $900, then you can at least go for the budget gaming laptops.

If you’re going to upgrade make it worth it, save until you at least get in the ~$500 range if not a little more. Spending 300 on something barely better is a 90% loss.

Honestly, if you’re looking for a laptop to do game making – especially with 3D rendering and all the bells and whistles, you aren’t going to spend less than $800. Any less, and it’s not really worth the money and you’ll be replacing just as quick as you bought it. That’s just how it works. At best, you can try and get a refurb’d $800 for like $700. I wouldn’t buy any computers used – generally they are getting rid of it for a reason, and you need something more than just a laptop with an internet connection.

Now an $800 desktop will be great for quite a few years, especially if you have monitors lying around. Just something to keep in mind.

Lenovo has good deals.

Check out their cheapest Y series laptop: $800 as it is on sale this week

15" screen, i7 2.2GHz, GeForce GT 555M 1GB, 8GB Ram. If you need more screen space, I would just buy a second monitor later. I have a 14" laptop and its nice and portable. A 15" should balance portability and usability, especially with its 1366x768 res LCD.

I would recommend the Y series. Last time I checked anything else didn’t have very good graphics.

Hmm, I’d upgrade laptop hard drive after buying it, although now in days you have to order the recovery disk to do this .

But say you buy a cheaper laptop with a smaller hard drive, then you buy a 500GB hard drive for like 100$ , then you still have an second hard drive that you can use for other things( a 50$ dock and it becomes an external hard drive !)
