Launching Exectuable From Installer -- Doesn't Work!

I have a unity3d project written for a school project and I need to make an ‘installer’.

Here’s what I’ve done:

  1. Copied the project folder to another directory called Installers/
  2. Created a Visual Studio 2008 installer project.
  3. Created shortcut from .exe and dragged it to the Program Files folder.

When I try to use the shortcut OR the go to the exe directly, my project fails to run. No setup screen or anything. Just a brief pause and then seems to “quit” out.

Any ideas?

Here a problem I’ve repeated several times.

I have a separate copy of my checkers game that runs and functions perfectly. It’s this exact folder I have told the visual studio setup project to use for the installer.

I install the application. I try to run the application and it fails to launch. I take the folder that I told the installer to use and copy all the files into the installed folder (under Program Files).

It then runs just fine.

What should I do? Could the compression be an issue? The files are exactly the same. :frowning:

Friendly bump.

Possibly not going to help, but I use Actual Installer http://www.actualinstaller.com/ which works very well. It is a paid for app, but you can use it to try it out and I found it very easy to use and compressed the files right down. It also has an uninstaller and updater built in.

Thanks for the idea but not in the mood to pay for this. :stuck_out_tongue:

It’s just for a school project. All I have to do is show my professor I have a working installer.
