Hello I hope this is in the right forum section. I have a question about Unity 3d and the pro and indy options. I currently considering learning unity in the hopes of one day making a game. My question is that can I learn and slowly build my project on the indy version and then later make finishing touches on a pro version? How limited is the indy version? I am not familiar with a lot of the technical jargon yet so I have a hard time understanding the Indie’s limitations. I have reviewed the feature listed but can not understand the importance of the features withheld from the Indy version.
Yep. Anything you make in indie will transfer to pro. Indy has plenty of features too, and should be plenty for you to learn on.
If you’re on the fence after your trial is up, I think they’ll give you another 30 days if you ask nice.
As far as I’m concerned though, you can’t go wrong paying $200 for indie… it is well worth it.
Will using Indy version limit using community created features? I understand shadows and effects limitation which is more visual and not so much how the game will run.
Not really.
Always recommend buying Indy and if you ever run up against something that is important to the game that can’t be done without Pro then worry about the Pro upgrade then.
+1
With Indie you’ll have the vast majority of Unity’s functionality at your disposal. Then if/when ready, you can upgrade to Pro (the cost is just the price delta, no premiums or extra charges), reopen your project and keep at it, it just works.
Good to know thanks.
