Lego The Game [RPG]

I’ve just like to make a topic for my new (first) Project which take place in a lego world, where you can do most of the usual RPG stuffs with some new features.

First of this is a build system so you can build your own place as you like.

Here is my First Demonstration

Right now I’m uploading a new version of this video but it takes a bit of time so tomorrow I’m going to post that to : )

Hope you like it

Martin

Hi Martin

Is this just a personal hobby project for fun? otherwise you can not make a Lego game because Lego is IP of Lego and they are very active in the gaming market and im sure would not tolerate any unauthorized use of their brand name.

ok, here is the idea, stop with the lego theme, but keep on going with this, because people like building their own crap. Perhaps make it like, build your own stone castle, something like that or build some kind of water system, like a puzzle game, something!

Yes what he said you will not be able to use Lego because that is copyrighted I suggest you change the way the characters look and all so it doesn’t really even look like lego also change the name, I wouldn’t want to see you get in trouble.

Although the gameplay video does look exciting!

Very cool concept but yes. Brand name will cause you much headache if you try to market this. Adjust as needed and continue on. But ya it looks cool.

If this is a comercial project, lego only has the rights to the lego name/logo and the lego minifigure, so has long as you don’t use any of these you should be fine.

Lego certainly doesn’t own the concept of inter-locking blocks so you could probably keep everything essentially the same except the character and be perfectly in the clear. Just redesign a little and call him Pegs the Bricklayer or something.

Keep on developing with the LEGO theme then contact Lego and see if they are interested in buying it.

I know lego does use Unity:

If Lego are not interested then just change the character to a knight or King / Queen or something and just have a building game with wood or stone blocks.

That is a very good idea in which he should try!

I’m not certain if this is meant to be sarcastic or sincere, but there is absolutely zero chance of this working. I’m not trying to be a downer but this simply isn’t how multinational companies operate.

Who cares… I hope he continues and finishes it. It’s obvious he ain’t selling it, so telling him to change it is beyond dumb…

i must say looks cool and you might be lucky as lego do have kind hearts if they see the value in it as they have done it in the past

Apply now : ) (although that ad was few months ago)

It may be that he doesn’t sell, nevertheless, when I was younger I worked on a half-life mod that was based on a large company’s IP and they asked us to stop. Also Chrono Resurrection made some substantial progress in developing a free Chrono Trigger remake before they had to cancel after Square Enix issued a cease and desist letter. The same thing happened to a Resident Evil mod once that people were pretty excited about. This happens all the time.

That fact that you aren’t going to make any money doesn’t protect you from legal action.

Better to change it now than to have to change it later when you’ve wasted more time working on assets that you aren’t going to be able to use.

What utter rubbish, its this attitude that will prevent a lot of people from even learning anything if people like you go around talking this bull.

So these large companies dont hire freelancers then or they dont hire people who send them a portfolio on spec.

Multinationals are not godlike entities that have to be bowed down and worshiped, they are there to make a profit and if somebody contacts them with an idea or product that will help them make money they will listen.

It also looks like 3D Studio Platforms have the contract from Lego for software game development so maybe they are the people to approach.

I’m not suggesting that it’s impossible to get hired by a major company. What I’m saying is that developing a game based on one of their IPs and trying to market it to them is putting a lot of effort behind a really unlikely scenario. That same effort would be better spent working on your own IP, or at least a legally distinct clone.

Who ever said anything about “bowing down and worshiping” anyone?

Perhaps you have a counter-example that shows the successful application of this process? I’d be happy to hear it.

Just in case it’s coming off that way I want to point out that I’m not trying to be snarky or rude. One unfortunate feature of text-based communication is that it’s easy to misread someone’s manner.

I second what @ZASkaggs said. It’s just plain illegal right now to attach the official “LEGO” name to any product (whether for non commercial or commercial purposes). I mean right now you are illegally representing a well known brand, but you’re not giving them any say in how they are represented. Eventually you will get a cease and desist letter from them if you gain big exposure with this. If you don’t gain big exposure with it, you might be able to “hide” out on the interwebs with it. Either way like @ZASkaggs said, it’s a lose-lose scenario.

Softwizz why attack with such strong insulting words “utter rubbish , this attitude , talking bull” ?

I will not agree with his mention of “absolutely zero” but he he quite right and the chances are very very slim , and I can speak from real life experience in this regard. His comment had no attitude - and in what way could making mention of real life multinational business practice hinder anybodies learning experience??

While some Multinational businesses might have some channels open to receive and review portfolios to some degree … many dont , and if their is no current tender from their side for a change in vendor or employment etc… then there is nobody assigned to deal with your out of the blue email trying to sell them your skill set or prototype game… whatever. It probably wont even be opened.

You also make a bad assumption that these Mega corps run 100% efficient and that the people in power of securing vendors/contractors are all perfect saints that always choose the “best” choice based only what they are supposed to with no favoritism due to corporate tax incentives or personal involvement eg… kickbacks , under table dealings , bribery and all other self enriching tactics.

Ive worked in a top line agency before and can assure you many people in high positions have big heads and “god like” egos and exercise it with joy all day everyday.

IF only this was true for every big business , the world would be all rainbows ponies and butterflies.

But I conclude with saying again I can not emphatically declare all I say as absolute law … if you want to chance the slim chance and play the odds by all means … you might be that one lucky guy  But I dont think your comment was fair at all as its good to have a proper perspective

Actually, he can use LEGO concepts! LEGO does own the Brick and Knob configurations, and the minifigure, but that’s no problem. LEGO just doesn’t want you to use their logo.

Check out their Fair Play Policy.

Keep up the good work!
