…hi guys…I am very new here, and Im thinking of buying Unity…but I would like to know first is it possible to build whole level in 3DSMAX including tecturizing, and then simply load it in to unity editor and o rest of the things in there like VFX, scripting, etc?? I’m asking becouse I already have 3DSMAX license, but unfortunatelly its only on PC, and I have my brand new MacBook Pro 17’ so i would like to consider purchase of Unity regarding question I just asked…I am sorry if this is not correct forum place, but I cant see anything like general discussion or something…thank ou guys in advance…
Welcome to Unity!
Yeah, you can build everything in 3DS Max and get it into Unity using the FBX format (or possibly 3DS native, not sure on that one). All your textures, UVs, and animations will carry over as long as you keep the folder hierarchy the same. In other words, you’ll have to send all your textures over to the Mac and if you keep the folder relationship identical they’ll automatically bind… if not it’s a simple matter to reassign the textures to their respective meshes.

Just get the trial version of Unity and try it. Yes, you will have to model on the PC (cause of 3dsmax), and either:
- manually copy FBX files to the Mac, or
- save FBX files over the network share directly into the Unity project on the Mac.
Absolutely no problem. Ron (the other widget monkey) models almost all his stuff in Max then I bring it in in Unity as fbx files, all textured up real pretty. No problems whatsoever. Welcome to Unity!
