Level Design: LIKE IT or NOT

We are thinking of redesigning the KinetXsphere levels.

The problem is that we are all pretty much new to modeling. So what we have did was make a level in Sketchup for you to rate and comment on.

very nice, the only problem i can see is whenever i do level design in SU it wont export a clean texture map.

Clean texture map, what do you mean by this? My levels seem to come out the way I planned them to?

I just read up a bit on texture mapping and I don think we do that. We Texture all the individual surfaces? If I have the wrong understanding of texture maps please inform me, we can only grow

You can texture the surfaces, this creates a unique or shared material for each new texture. Depending on your needs, this is just fine, however not very optimized, which can be an issue on mobile devices. You’ll find things work better if you bake the textures into a texture map, that is definitely something worth learning.

I will Google that and see what I can learn about baking texture.

Do you think one can bake light maps in Sketchup or should I use Blender?

You can bake lights in SketchUp with the LightUp add on.

Is that a PRO ONLY feature?
