When you start a thread there is the option to make a poll, I think you should be able to edit this thread and add a poll ![]()
Yea, I would like to prevent illegal copies of my game but thats impossible to stop. People will create new cracks, hacks, bypasses, etc. Like any other dev, I want people to buy the game. I won’t add any DRM. Just the old fashion click on the icon and start the game. No need for servers, cd keys, etc.
I was like, “Like a Boss!” … And then I saw your sig. lol
Ive tried researching for a DRM like solution that isn’t a pain in the butt. I couldn’t find any reasonable solutions, its either intrusive, limiting AND not complete protection or a game that gets pirated way more than bought. Right now their isn’t a perfect fix to pirates, nor may there ever be.
Unfortunately, we live in the age of entitlement. People want software, and they don’t have/refuse to pay the money to buy it, so they’ll just pirate it. There’s no morals. The liberal software crackers just care about themselves; they don’t realize that if they don’t give a damn, the developer can’t publish any more updates or more games.
Just want to add that I like the strategy Mojang uses for Minecraft: people can download the game and play singleplayer, but for multiplayer, which is what people really want you need an account verified by Mojang’s servers. Very clever.
Did any of you guys see that game called dev tycoon? Its just some game where you simulate making games and trying to make a living out of it. (sounds weird i know) But the cool thing is, if you pirated the game you were more likely to get your games pirated “in the dev tycoon game”. It got so bad someone on the forums asked how to research drm because people kept pirating his game.
Read here if i didnt explain very well, i thought it was pretty clever and funny.
Haha, good stuff. You can rat out the pirates easily this way!

I want to create a service generation and verification keys. With the API for sale keys.
Enabling binding to the hardware will cost $5-10 (anti-noob). But for start the project need startup capital.
So I decided to find out need this service?
Is it worth bother with the fundraising, the launch of the project, etc.?
Or no one needs?
I originally built as server side system to authenticate product keys for my game, but the distributor I’m going with basically said serial keys are pretty much dead or each retailer uses their own key system. So since then I’ve taken them out.
But if selling independently, yes I would auth the key against a secure web service method.
The scheme of Service:
