LifeEssence appearance at GDC! :D

GDC!

One of our collaborators will be speaking at GDC (Game Developers Conference) and requested to feature our game in his presentation. LifeEssence has been the development of myself, and two others. We’ve been working on it for around a year+ now and we’re nearing time for a demo release. Currently working on the official trailer. Figured I’d share this news as it’s huge for our team and we’re very happy and proud. One of the videos he’ll be showing is here:

LifeEssence centers around a mentally ill main character seeking solace from his illness. He breaks away from his reality and enters a fantasy-like dream land entitled Trium. In this realm he must discover ways to heal and to find peace but it won’t be easy.

We put this in WIP because we will be updating it with our collaborations as well as upcoming videos about the game. Thanks for checking it out

We’re on Steam Greenlight Concepts:

Cool! Reminds me of thomas covenant’s adventures.

I actually haven’t heard of that but I’ll definitely have to check it out now.

Update:

As of late the team has been working extremely hard. We’ve decided on a solid set of mechanics and a unique environment based gameplay notification system which removes the need for a HUD. We’re still integrating that so some of the videos made have the HUD in them still. We also have a solid combat system that we’ll be integrating that is quite unique and uses a sort of painting to aid you in helping the negative characters and learning more about them and yourself. Beyond that, we’re likely going to be integrating modernized fairy tales and mythology as story and gameplay elements to further engross the player into the LifeEssence world of Trium.

Beyond working on the game, it was presented briefly at GDC. I’m still waiting on how that went since I wasn’t there nor was the team, but we’re really excited to hear about it. Also we had an interview by SmallDevTalk blog that I’ll definitely be sharing when it’s done. It really sheds light on the project and more of the storyline and gameplay. Beyond that, we have a new video up showing another of the environments. We’ve been really productive since last posting. We’re currently working on getting everything set up for a pro trailer to share. That will contain likely cutscenes, puzzles, and some of the interesting mechanics we’ve been developing for how the player is interacting with the world they are in.

You really need to investigate Rift support for this one, seems simple enough : p
Really interested in this title : D

Definitely been discussing it within the team. We’ll need external funding so we’ll likely be doing a Kickstarter. We all have agreed that Rift and VR support would be amazing for this project, and we’re definitely heading in that direction with removing the HUD and creating environmental cues and notifications about your characters status. Immersion is our biggest focus and thus far all the ideas we’ve had have centered on feeling like you’re literally in the game. Games like that tend to leave the player with that magical ‘Wow, that was not just a game but an experience’ sort of feeling. That’s what we’re striving for. We’ll definitely keep everyone updated, but funding will definitely be needed. It’s been over a year and the game has been out of pocket from myself, this has been my full time job. When we get the pro trailer out though, things will start gaining a lot of momentum. I’m sure of that.

Here’s another video as well for you all.

Here’s the interview I did for SmallDevTalk blog about the LifeEssence Project. It should shed quite a bit of light about what this project is aiming for.

I’m also posting the link to Justin Lassen’s blog, the man we’re collaborating with who had brought this game to GDC for his own presentation on Sound Design.

The game is definitely getting more recognition then I ever expected it to while still in development. I’m very proud of it. The LifeEssence community is on Facebook at:
http://www.facebook.com/lifeessencegame
and the mailing list as well as other updates (like Facebook but less engaging) will be at:
http://www.lifeessencegame.com
Thanks for checking in here, it’s definitely appreciated. I hope the interview helps you gain more understanding about what we as a team hope to achieve as well as how the game works and what will be within it.
