Hi there
I am finishing up a title for mobile. I am quite happy with it, however one last item, that I am looking at is lighting. To me, it looks kind of flat.
I am wondering if the community has any recomendations, given the voxel style art and the and mobile platform.
So I think your original image shows very bland colors (apart from the logo). Try giving them more contrast and make each color more unique and make it stand out more, take a picture and post it!
Yes, I think there’s one light judging by the shadows. Just try making the colors more vivid in your game and see what happens, post a picture so we can see!
So here yah go… I played around a bit and came up with these.
Any preference? DO you think there is an improvement at all?
**note, it difficult for me to play with the art since I am not the artist. Also, the nature of the level design is a 2 unit lane, and then open blue sky, vs Crossy Roads, which is a plane of action, on the ground. Various bits running about etc.
I mainly made the ground’s colors more vivid, but the tree colors should match as well.
You don’t have to be a great artist to change colors, all you need is to look in the material you’re using and change the color from there. I see Super Race and Crossy Road are quite different, but they have the same pixel-block style. Comparing side-by-side, you can see that Cross Road’s colors are much more vivid and pronounced, while yours are all much closer to white.
Other than that though I think the screenshot looks great!
