I hope it comes true for computers within the near future! That would be sweet! But then again, what would the price range be hahaha.
I saw this and knew I had to share this, it’s so exciting if this is true!
Could you imagine the possibilities of gaming if computers are literally millions of times faster!
Sounds really cool! One day, the standard laptop will be thousands of times more powerful than the fastest super computer today - just like our current laptops are to the supercomputers of several decades ago. Humankind is awesome!
That is true, they say our smartphones are more powerful than the first lunar landings :).
Hahahaha yeah, well last I checked like (6 years ago at least). Microsoft is trying to figure out how to make Molecular memory. Which would be like 1000 terabytes or whatever in memory lol.
Yeah i’d much rather slow down to the Roman Age. (For my own reasons).
I’d much rather be a hunter gatherer than be doing this. But noooo too many restrictions, fees, licenses, rules, etc.
If I want to live out in a stone cottage in the middle of nowhere and mind my own, take care of me and my (one day) family, etc. Why must I get in trouble for that? Things are in my opinion gonna go so fast and in the matter of seconds it will all be taken away but some global crises (E.G. - Asteroid/Comet/Unpredictable weather events). Yeah things might could pick back up one day, but you’ll have so many factions of peoples trying to survive it would be a almost impossible nightmare to try and piece it back together without said groups wanting power and control.
Advancing technology allows us to better achieve concepts that we may have thought unrealistic or downright impossible in the past. Gimmick or otherwise some of us would like to see them in action before we die of old age.
One thing these articles fail to mention is that by the time we’ve reached that point our technology gap will make it so that the difference will no longer be millions of times. It’s not too different from comparing modern computers to a UNIVAC.
Realistic titles though don’t generate as many clicks.
Hard to say. They could be a lot more because they price it on performance. Or it could be a lot less because this new technology requires less parts or less expensive parts.
Though making photorealistic assets for this would be really hard ;). Unless Euclideon’s tech will be finally released for the game companies (I’ve recently had pleasure of playing with their famous “island” demo and I can say their claims are true, even though the data needed weighs about 10gb) so we can just 3d scan real-life objects in.
Though I think it’d be pretty hard sell as probably new CPU architecture would be needed, I don’t see x86 or arm work well on non-silicon chips.
Succeed in gamedev is not about having ultra fast device but is about ability to create emotion (sounds, graphics, game logic, control, communicate etc).
For next almost two years device will able to handle ray traced very well but this is not big step forward. If we could make ultimate keyboard and ultimate open dynamic world we could make big jump in gamedev and for now we done in sounds, graphics, game logic) but we late in control, communicate.
I think quantum computing only affects data storage… turns 0/1s to 0/1/2s, giving us 1.5^n more memory. Qbits will still need electrons or light to transport data.
