Lighting help for my Cave

Hello all, i do have another acc on here but cannot log into it for some reason, anyways, i am trying to set up lighting for a test map i am working on, Basically i am in the middle of making a cave using rock/stone assets (this is probably my issue) and wanting it to be dark and gloomy e.t.c the further you get into it, However when i set my Directional light out side to light up the world it also carries over into my cave, i can accept it carrying over a little into the entrance but it basically lights up my cave as if it were not there, i know i am doing something wrong but have no idea what lol, can anybody point me in the right direction as to what to do, i have tried searching tutorials on lighting e.t.c but nothing has helped me. i will post some screenshots so you can see what i mean, i am getting a dark ring around my camera when i walk as tho it is meant to be darker but then 20 feet in front it is light as day, it is like this through out the whole tunnel, it is almost like i have a revers torch effect happening where as my ““torch”” is shining shadows if that makes sense??

I vaguely remember having to deal with this though I’m not sure I came up with a solution. I would try the following:

  1. Turn you ambient lighting down/off
  2. Make sure cast/receive shadows is turned on on the cave mesh
  3. Try a different light source (not a directional light)
  4. Use a blob projector to darken the cave

A directional light simulates a light with direction but no source location, so there’s no concept of inside or outside with them.

Thanks for the reply, i will try these suggestions and update here if/when i find a solution

Well i tried your suggestions and appreciate them but unfortunately no difference was made, i am thinking i cannot make a cave like this and need to make one outside of unity and import it in, this i was hoping is not the only option as i have no idea on how to go about it or to buy another program to allow me to do it :frowning: Is there any other lighting options i can download (lighting package) to use within unity or am i stuck with what Unity delivers? all i basically want is a light that would project onto the scene but not through the assets within it, I basically want the light to be the sun outside the cave on the terrain not inside the cave also.

Looks Like your shadow distance is set too low. (Project settings/Quality. Unfortunately a global value by default. )
Also it might be a good idea to bake the lighting for the cave or exclude it from the sun (or turn the sun off ) if you get deeper into the cave.

ok thanks i will try that, will post an update here of the outcome.

Findus you are a champion, i knew it was something simple, My shadow Quality settings were set low, after tweaking the cave is now working as intended thanks
