Lightmapping Problems

Hi everyone,

I’m having some problems with lightmapping, it may be to do with the options I am choosing, but currently I’m trying to make a scene with hard shadows, intentionally bad quality hard shadows.

Unity 5 has just moved on from Beast so I’m not 100% sure whether I’m going about this the right way.

The issue is that when I bake, the shadows don’t seem to be hard at all, in fact, they are so soft, it almost looks as if there are no shadows, it’s a far cry from the real-time preview I get.

I have just updated to the 5.0.1 update.

Hopefully this is a mistake on my side and easily fixable.

Thanks in advance.

Hey,

Few things to consider:

  • decrease baked resolution, it increases the quality of the shadows
  • you are using ambient from skybox which makes your scene more lighter (shaded areas too), so considering you have interior I’d change it to solid black color
  • play around with indirect intensity, the lower the less light gets bounced and scene will be darker in general
  • increase ambient occlusion, it increases the contrast between dark areas and full lit ones
