I have been using lightwave for a few weeks/months on and off and I do enjoy Lightwave and have tried others but find the LW interface to be easier to understand.
I have done a search and to be honest this has confused me is it possible to import models from LW into Unity. I was mainly thinking of characters, would the include all ssigned materials and animations?
LW 9.6 can export to FBX relatively well, so you’ll have to go that route. I’ve used LW in conjunction with other apps and Unity in my pipeline without any issues as of 9.6. As far as including animations, I haven’t tried that, so I’m not sure, but I’m pretty sure textures come across OK.
FBX is definitely the best way to get your models into Unity, especially if you are not using Max or Maya.
Unity has very strong support of the FBX file format, but sometimes certain 3rd party FBX exporters (such as the one for Cinema 4D) aren’t taking full advantage of the FBX format.
I’m not aware of problems involving Lightwave and FBX.
