Linux Support...

This is kinda annoying, You can play games made in Unity on Linux systems but you can run Unity3D on the systems? Anyone else kinda bugged by this? I hate using Wine for programs.

No you can’t. Use the search function of the forum. Merry Christmas.

Wow, I’m blunt. Sorry. xD

The rate of devs using Linux is not high enough to make it worth while supporting it IIRC.

I’m kinda annoyed about that too. If they’re not going to allow development on Linux why are they creating ports to it?

Simply that the demand for games on Linux was seen as worth vesting time in, for a publishing option, and as TylerPerry just stated UT does currently see it paying off to dedicate the staff and money to port and maintain another branch of Unity3D.

There’s a bigger gamer market on Linux than a game developer market on Linux. Though Linux is great, it doesn’t have enough developers to be worthwhile to port Unity to at the moment. it’s just another version of Unity to keep up to date, and the resources used for that could go into something more important.
like the new GUI system that is bound to come out in the next release of Unity

So people can run Unity games on Linux? Why else? Unity was Mac-only for years, until 2.5, but could still produce Windows builds. It doesn’t seem that any given build platform is all that relevant to the development platform. One of the main points of using Unity is to easily make multi-platform games.

How big is Linux’s gamer market? I never considered it to be big since wine looks really unstable.

If that, Correct my if I my wrong but I haven’t seen the unity team say anything about a New GUI and they have no ETA for it. If that is the case it’s probably vaporware.

No… its real just been delayed, but I don’t know if it will come out in the next release.

Exactly. Sarcasm doesn’t flow too well through the internet.
