If you read through previous threads, you will find that there is a upcoming issue that UT is dealing with for the WebPlayer on Mac/Win. I wouldn’t expect any interest in a Linux web player until they have sorted that out first.
Sorry, UT refers to Unity Technologies, the company that creates Unity.
Chrome is ending support for the plugin technology that the Unity Web Player currently utilizes. Effectively at the end of next year, Unity Web Player won’t run in updated versions of Chrome. Unity is working toward a solution, but nothing currently announced.
Thanks
I did not know that.
For your previous post, it is possible to create a Virtual Machine or Emulate a Browser and its plugins …
But for me, on a old ultrabook (<2005), I haven’t sufficient RAM to launch a Virtual Machine.
and for them emulators, they exist only one, “WineHQ”, it’s pretty lame, full of beug, and very (very) slow.
I don’t think the current web player will ever come to linux because of the above news about browsers dropping support. Also they brought linux desktop publish before web plugin which sounds even more so that web wont ever come.
Sorry, I do not quite understand, I’m am French.
I haven’t Unity 3D.
I’am just a Linux Player
and I would like to play a Unity Web Player Game.
But i can’t use a Emulator / VM (Cited Above).
Actually, there is program for Linux which allows you to utilize the Unity3D web-client. It is called pipelight, and it was originally designed to pipe silverlight running under WINE over to run natively under the Linux based web browsers.
Hi. Found this thread while looking for solutions to this problem.
Are you guys working on a Linux version yet?
It’s really frustrating.
Like someone mentioned above, it used to work. Now none of these workarounds work.
Not the Chrome plugin and not Pipelight.
Pipelight never really worked with Unity. It would stutter and be all choppy.
