Little Titan; Creature Metroidvania

This game is missing programmers and has been put in the fridge until i can dig up one

New Textures done for demo levels 1 and 2, level 3 contains boss texture wich i havent had the time to get around to do yet. spent most of the weekend doing these, hope u like!

dont really wanna say more as this is a fresh project, and painting these things takes an awful lot of time…just hoping they dont look rushed!

To-Do List

  • Add mouseaiming for the biting along with a crosshair that suits the game(circle with teeth in it?)
  • Give the enemies some basic AI for testing out combat
  • Make DNA drops icons, beeing able to swap bodyparts from equipping them
  • Make ā€œneutralā€ enemies give u a warning if u get to close, aggro radius. Attack if crossed
  • Make all the abilities work (dodge,evade,dash,sprint etc)

I built a quick level and need some feedback on the overall feel and look of the game. this is just one world and ahs its own look.

things placed in there are all test, nothing more, so dont mind things not making sense.
Characters has been animated with smoothmoves, i strongly recommend it!

some textures for the diffrent underwater worlds, might use some of these, might now. Concepts for now.


HUD concept, think im headed int he right direction for now, might be changed later. colors will be altered to not blend in with the enviroment, hence the glow effect.


Main character. All his bodyparts can be swapped for new parts giving him a new look and feel, also adding new stats like damage, armor, health, speed etc

Yeah i’ll show more when i get the time to make more mockups, im not gonna build these in Unity just yet since thats EXTREMLY timeconsuming.

this is pretty much the first area of the game, other areas look very diffrent and i have atleast 8 biomes planned sofar.

Updated with screenshot of some ingame characters. Demo boss, crabs and a jellyfish, all animated in Smoothmoves, hopefully i can show them off soon.

Mentioning it as a metroidvania(one of my fav genres) given your aesthetic and setting are you going for something like Aquaria with this?

yes, this is Castlevania,Metroid,Megaman X and Aquaria all in one, hopefully. It is also my favourite genre as im not liking the ā€œlinearā€ approach to games,at all. Ive always missed games that give u the explorationfeel at a large scale, and also rewards u for doing exactly that by finding new bodypart(wich acts like gear in this game) and new abilities,along with other things like rare and unique bosses,drops and so on.

The painting style is my own and it has already been confused with Aquaria 2 on some other forums,probably a joke form their side:P this is how i paint so cant really change that!

Aquaria is very much a game i enojyed, but it lacked ā€œprogressā€ i felt as it only gave u new ā€œsuitsā€ and pets. In this game im lookign for something deeper where u can make each bodypart change and give u new stats and abilities. Cant see in the dark? Kill an anglerfish and unlock his DNA for his head,and so on.

that’s very nice! he first levels of AnotherWorld were dark blue cavey things too, and they went on to do steam, you’re on the right path!

haha thanks, not sure ive seen AnotherWorld tbh but i figured i’d start the game off with some darker areas with some crystals and stuff to get the player comfortable, then throw em in nastier areas later:P

The areas changes alot depending on what biome ur in so there weill be alot of variaty

All i need is a healthbar really, staminabar and some form of minimap

Up in your top left, make a fish hp bar. The fish loses fill as you lose life. :] then as you lose stamina the fish looks more tired. :] keeps it all in 1 little cool GUI. then when you die the fish eyes change to X’s and you could make it turn upside down like a fish dies :]. Just an idea :smile: totally unique.

haha well thats interesting! I like the idea of having all HUD elemetns in one texture, dont want them all aound the screen. since this game isnt human or humanoid based in any way, the textures for HUD wont be made out or metal and things of this nature.

As for the death animation, u just gave me the idea of giving him separate eyes for his animationbones, so thanks!:smile:

I wasn’t confusing it with an Aquaria sequel. Only referenced Aquaria because you have that gorgeous painterly style and similar setting. Atleast in it being underwater :slight_smile: Wasn’t trying to knock it. If I could draw like that I’d be all over it.

I know what you mean about the non-linear approach and rewarding players for exploring, love that. Like the sound of where you’re headed aswell. Absorbing body parts to unlock new abilities.

oh not at all didnt think u were! i dont mind ppl thinking im making something based on Aquaira because that game is gorgeous so it’s only positive. I only want to expand on Aquarias ideas really since its such an amazing game with great potential.

yes exactly, i want to riddle this game with secret areas and places u need abilities to get through and so on, so u can easily loose alot of hours just swimming around meeting new creatures and finding new parts.

Maybe he could have a jelly fish that follows him around and glows/flashes warmer colors when health is low.
