I’m new here so this may be in the wrong topic section? (If it is, I’ll delete this.) But I have a question. When games load into different levels, are all of the levels on different servers?
For example: If you’re in a village in Skyrim, and you go into a building, after the loading screen, are you on a different server from the village now that you’re in the building? I’m just very curious to know how that works.
Skyrim has no “servers” - it’s a single-player game.
Skyrim has two different loading setups during gameplay:
- When walking around outdoors, it dynamically loads and unloads different sections of the word’s content based on your location.
- When switching between indoors and outdoors, a loading-screen level is loaded which then loads the location you’re going to.
Loading from a saved game is similar to #2.
Both of these techniques use what’s typically called “streaming” and it can be achieved in Unity Pro through the use of various classes/methods:
• Application.LoadLevelAdditiveAsync()
• Application.LoadLevelAsync()
• WWW.assetBundle
• AssetBundle.LoadAsync()
Oh, I see now! Thank you so much!
