LOD Crossfade issue - 2021-22

Hello guys.

Before spending a certain amount of time creating some simple examples to show the issue, I can’t share video-images from the project. I wanted to ask first if anyone noticed that the Crossfade in 2021-22 is working “bad” compared with 2019.

I have Speedtree vegetation that in 2019, I feel the crossfade is smooth-soft, in fact really good, but in 21-22 the crossfade is too obvious you can clearly see the points, and even sometimes some transition is strong, I mean jump quickly from one level to other.

This is sometimes that is happening to me only?. is it a known bug?.

if It’s necessary I could invest some time to create a simple scene with the vegetation, in order to show my concern but I wanted to ask first.

PD: and in 21-22 Editor is worst compared with 2019. But still, although in the build version is better than Editor, still there is an important visual difference, don’t feel the LOD is ready for production compare with 2019.

Thanks
Eduardo

Update of this post, after some testing.

In 2019 the Speedtree shader wasn’t working in HDRP/URP, Unity at that moment didn’t update the ST shader, so I was forced to use a custom one using the shader graph.

Apparently, the issue that I have been watching in 21-22 could be some bug or problem that could have Speedtree + using custom shader graph.

Now in 2021, Unity upgrade the ST shader and now works in HDRP properly, after switching to that shader (that now has the wind feature working  ), the visual issue that I had, disappeared.

Now the LOD transition is much better and smooth.
