Just testing the waters as I don’t need to put my site on the web yet, but could anyone recommend a good web hosting service for me? I am not looking for much, it just needs to be easy to use and reasonably priced (no more than £5 / $7.60). I am pretty new to the whole hosting thing, so I thought the Unity community would be the best place to come for advice!

Dreamhost is one of the most used web hosting services in the industry. It’s CRAZY cheap for what I get: email, web, SVN, etc… They have one-click installs/activation for any major web service I wanted whether it was setting up a SQL database or launching WordPress. Used them for 2 years and I’m 100% satisfied.

It’s cheap and they have a good service and support in my experience.
I always check out this website before buying hosting - www.url-store.com - My personal favourite is hostgator because they’re the simplest and usually the cheapest for new hosting packages.
I also used Dreamhost for more than 3 years.
This is not the fastest host, but the number of free services usefull for dev are big.
This is still the cheapest solution to get an online svn on the web (illimited size data + code). I put all my project on it.
Been using GreenGeeks.com without problems.

I haven’t had problems and they actually lock out by IP address after too many failed login attempts (it was me in that case). Many sites don’t do that.
Just curious, can I put up a .net compiled MasterServer (like the one Unity put up) in these host service you all mentioned here? Like running the .exe I created in there?
No, you can’t run that on shared servers.
I’ve been looking into this though, and it looks like you may be able to run it on a Windows based VPS. I’ve found this company: http://www.softsyshosting.com/windows-vps.aspx that seems to offer very good rates for Windows VPS, but you have to set everything up yourself, which is not super easy. Note that I haven’t yet tried these guys, so I don’t know how good they are, though they seem to have some pretty good reviews.

I am not so sure but you couldn’t found any web hosting in that amount because I always seen web hosting starting from $2 to $5 monthly.

For dedicated/virtual servers I can recommend Leaseweb for very competitive pricing. They have world-class facilities in the Netherlands and US.
I’ve used both HostGator and Lithium Hosting in the past. HostGator was alright but Lithium Hosting was excellent.
