Looking for a Oficial Unity Certified Expert Programmer

Hi all! I dont know where o how i can find here certified experts, so ill try use this post. We are looking for and Certified Expert for a position on a spanish company. Starting with a VR project during all 2023. We are looking for people to hire or even freelancers.

Thank you

Do they have to be certified? Most expert Unity devs don’t bother with certification as far as I can observe. Might be easier to just look for someone with an impressive resume.

This. Last I remember discussing the certificates it was mentioned they were trivially easy to pass for anyone who had taken the time to go through all of the official learning material. I’d like to think that has changed as they now have multiple tiers but I just don’t see the value in the certificate and have never bothered getting mine.

I have taken the Unity Certified Professional: Programmer certificate just out of curiosity. The questions weren’t that difficult. Just like you say, studying offical learning materials are enough for anyone to get it.

The thing thats wrong with Unity certificates (or programming certificates overall) is that they just test your knowledge and not your experience. I would hire someone with a great portfolio rather than someone with a decent portfolio plus the certificate.

Certifications are very popular and in demand regardless of industry in some parts of the world, especially developing countries where it’s an easy sieve to sort people into haves and have-nots while appearing “fair” and not caste-driven. Companies offer certifications as an easy profit center, too: just turn the crank on a whole new batch of Certified Experts while doing almost nothing but publishing the same content readily available in the developed world.

Certifications maybe useful if you are looking for junior programmers who mostly do scripting. Otherwise look for college degrees and most importantly experience.

College degrees don’t mean anything when it comes to programming. In every way, they’re just advanced forms of certification. There’s a reason pretty much every interview will ask how to solve a problem/set of problems in pseudocode.

Hi, im absolutly agree with all of you. To me the experience or the degree is more important, but some clients are obsessed with the titles and require them to certify the “validity” of the team

Personally when I see CVs that mention Unity’s certification or equivalent frivolous certs, it affects me negatively.

This was my experience getting the base level certificate. The test was so generic and easy to pass that I never saw the benefit of paying for more certificates.
