I am a 16 year old kid that loves to draw maps for games and was wondering how long it generaly take to learn modeling if i stick to the tutorials. I just have soo many maps down on paper that i can’t get out of my head till i make them. halo forge helps a lot with this but im always limitted to those tools and never get to finish. also is there any software out the that is very noob friendly.
ps. please don’t say blender it’s not accurate enough
Start with blender (it IS accurate). It’s free and easy to use once you get the hang of it. I started modeling when I was young, using Swift 3D (awful program at ver. 4.5). I couldn’t stand the blender interface, so I splurged and bought Maya at an academic discount when I was 13 (I’m also 16 now). Start with cheap software, though. Follow some tutorials to get started with the interface, but don’t do everything from a tutorial. You have to use your mind and imagination for most of the level. Also, if you want to use the map in a game, keep it low-poly. That’s my advice.
thanks i’ll keep on blender and i have plenty of expirence with creativity no wory. i was thinking of posting my very early work that im doing but it would make no sense to you guys. and i’m wondering because im working on a game story and map design for a game and I need more people to help and a lot more expirence. (starting off small for 3 months then gonna start)
Another thing to remember, if you want feedback, post to the “What are you working on?” thread in the showcase forum.
