Seems interesting from the video. Good luck.

Thanks  I haven;t had much feedback on the game… I’m wondering if it’s because it doesn;t look exciting or if cause it’s kind of a wii style game there’s not as much fan fare about it? does it need more blood and guts? haha not sure…

thanks though!

Could you reduce the sound level on the “humming too oneself” as the character is walking it’s getting in the way of the pleasant music track.

Good game potential otherwise though not sure what’s going on and why

Yes, the humming is a constant nag… I will be lowering the sound level or removing it or making it very sparse and random. As for what you have to do, I assume you’re just watching the video… maybe I need to add some descriptors somewhere…

Jason

That is the thing it’s constant and loud, random and sparse would be good but i think it gives the character personality so i wouldn’t remove.

Good point  thanks for the tip!

Played the demo, here’s some critique:

  • Pretty good work on the graphics, and environment. Animations work OK but need to fix the looping for the walk animation so it stops immediately even when the player stops trying to move.

-Combat is kinda clunky, it’s too hard to aim accurately. You need some kind of targeting system for the player to automatically face the enemy when you are attempting to attack, or increase the range/hitbox. Even in your video sample you can see multiple missed attack attempts despite being at point blank range.

  • Intro was entirely too long and I lost interest with the scrolling text wall very quickly. I would suggest telling a very stripped down version of the story through illustrations as an introduction. Maybe have the full backstory available as an extra in the menu.

-Not sure what the purpose of the jump is, it plays a jump animation but it doesn’t appear to move the character up at all.

  • Character controls GUI need to be changed. Ditch the Penelope thumbsticks and make cleaner looking buttons that match the other GUI parts that look pretty good.

  • As noted, lower the volume + frequency of the humming sounds from the character.

  • Probably the hardest change, but I think the game would work a bit better with a more dynamic camera that drifts a bit (rather than always being straight forward) and can focus on enemies. Of course you would then have to implement camera controls or a least a re-center button.

Edit: - Last quick note, the background music is very good but a very short loop. Try to extend it to 1-2 minute track with variations at least to make it not so repetitive.

Overall though looks like a solid effort and I can tell there’s a lot of love in this project  Take the extra time to polish the controls and presentation and it will help a lot.

Awesome thank you very much for the list of things I can fix… I’ve been working hard all day to try and fix/solve most of these issues and am in the process of updating the apk right now so  stay tuned for that… I have not tackled all of the issues though like the old guy talking… maybe I will make it a question and answer type thing? you can get as much or as little info as you want? Sound good?

I made an additional button for a camera view change… one is more top down the other is the standard one… some people may like it one way or the other so… and a bunch of other things changed too

Keep the crits coming! I’d love to have this all worked out before getting too deep into the meat of the game.

Cheers,
Jason
