Looking for founding 3d and/or 2d artists for a new new indie game studio focused on Apple Watch gaming

Autonomous is an indie game publisher that has developed various mobile and console games on various platforms since 2002.

Autonomous is seeking artists with game design chops to join a new game studio to focus on development of Apple Watch games.

The games would likely also be released on iPhone, but the focus of this studio will be “Designed for Apple Watch”.

There are over 100 million users of Apple Watch, while no major game studio or indie studio has truly committed to pushing the envelope of Apple Watch gaming and design. The lack of quality Apple Watch games has created a unique creative and business opportunity for an indie studio with vision and focus to become the leading game publisher on an open platform with tens of millions of potential gamers only waiting for quality games to catch their attention.

Apple Watch is an underutilized platform for gaming, with little competition, and a great opportunity for revenue generation as an indie game platform. Many of the featured Apple Watch games are listed in the top 30 paid games on the iOS app store, and the competition is weak. No major publisher has invested in apple watch game development, which provides an opportunity for an indie studio to become the leading game publisher on the platform.

Apple Watch also provides a novel interface that is almost completely unexplored in terms of viable game design, a veritable blue ocean opportunity to create novel games and generate significant revenue with little competition.

Autonomous is seeking 3d artists and 2d artists who enjoy such challenges, and who see an opportunity to create truly novel gaming experiences that live on the player’s wrist.

This is the sort of role that would fit well with any commercial artist looking for work or looking for an interesting side gig, or beginner artists with talent looking to build their portfolio towards becoming a commercial paid artist, with an opportunity to generate significant revenue from relatively little effort compared to what it takes to release bleeding edge games on other platforms.

Developing for Apple Watch is relatively technically challenging, and requires a 3d or 2d artist who can troubleshoot how to get the most out of the platform. The texture budget and polycount limitations are much lower than iOS or any other major platform, requiring a skilled 3d low poly artist with excellent texturing skills and animation skills, similar to the challenge of developing games on Nintendo DS, for instance, with only about 30MB of memory available.

However, the interface for the Apple Watch is novel, intriguing, and largely unexplored: accelerometer, touchscreen, digital crown, heart rate monitoring, and GPS provide a unique interface for game design.

This new studio will focus on creating new and novel game ideas that define the state of the art in Apple Watch gaming, to dominate the sales leaderboards on Apple Watch.

This role will begin as an equity based position for founding artists with a contract promising revenue per game title. Revenue potential is strong, and each well designed game could generate long-term revenue measuring in tens of thousands or more, potentially leading to a full-time well-paid job within the first year.

For an artist who cares about novel game designs, wants to contribute to disrupting an overlooked gaming platform for tens of millions of gamers, and up to the challenge of developing beautiful, novel and disruptive game designs in a novel platform like Apple Watch, this would be an great opportunity to work on games that could become major revenue generating indie games.

Each game should only require a relatively small commitment compared to developing for other platforms, providing a unique opportunity for commercial artists who are looking to join an indie studio to explore game design and push the limits of an overlooked platform.

If you are a 3d or 2d artist looking to have a leading role in a new indie game studio, reply and tell us more about yourself!

100m use apple watch, less then 50% or maybe much lower actually play games on it, apple watch cant run any good games. Wow, sounds like a good idea.

Well, it can run 3d games, actually, with SceneKit. Tiny asteroids is 3d, physics with hundreds of rigid bodies on screen, no problem. And our maze zen app runs box2d no problem. It’s got limitations, mainly memory and texture space, but we started in j2me which only had 200kb memory and you would be surprised what is possible with 30mb. And it can run SpriteKit games at high frame rate, too. It’s more about imagination and making games well suited to platform with a challenging interface. And if you look at top 50 overall paid puzzle games, Apple Watch has several in that list, so it’s possible to be competitive as an indie dev on the watch, and generate significant revenue eventually, paid and/or freemium model, but not enough to have to worry about big publishers competing. Everyone has an Apple Watch these days, and no one has ever made a killer game; so it’s there for the taking.

Id like to get involved. Kindly drop your email or discord.
