Hello there!
I’m trying to make an old phone in unity. And the biggest challenge I’m having is making the phone cable, I made the 3d model in 3ds max using Helix.
Now the problem I’m having, is how can I make it bend realisticaly…?
Thanks in advance!
Any suggestion would be greatly apreciated !
When you say bend realistically Im guessing your looking to animate the cord stretching as the phone user stretches the phone away from the receiver. If this isnt correct - you need to explain further.
Animating a coiled phone cable realistically isnt an easy thing to do. If I were doing this for a game I think I would use a spline IK with 4 bones (5 vertex points). One end parented to the phone receiver, the other end point parented to the phone with 3 points in between to animate the cord as you want.
This could be done with more bone joints which would look more realistic, but take more time to skin accurately and animate.
The main limitation is this rig would not stretch like a normal coiled phone cord can. Stretching is doable but very complex, too complex to explain in a forum post.
Hope this helps.
