Looking for Model Critique

Hey there. I’m just looking for some tips on how I can improve my modeling. Here’s my latest:

I think my main issue is texturing. Got any tips?

I think I’d look at tutorials or articles that talk about normal mapping and texturing. The model itself looks pretty good. A nice normal map could really bring out the detail.

I agree, the model looks pretty good and the texture is decent, but it definately has more potential.

Well, what other kinds of details would I add with a normal map? What do you think it’s missing?

Harder edges. It all seems too soft. I think it is also missing a the tail in the back that allows it to maneuver. I’m not a jet expert but I don’t think that thing would be flying at the moment.

It can fly alright, it just can’t turn left and right. It’s missing the vertical flaps.

When designing textures for real life objects, it’s best to work by reference. For example :

Find images of planes you find cool, find out what makes them cool, adapt that element and apply it to your texture.

Also, note that no metalic surface is ever smooth. Regardless of what colors and shapes you draw on the surface, you need to blend it with a rusty texture in photoshop. The more you blend, the older the metallic surface looks like. And never, ever draw your texture randomly. Every color, and every line you draw needs to be there for a reason.

Note that I’m no artist myself, but I spend a lot of time with my company’s art division and I picked up a few things about texturing.

Texture is fine, but a bit bland. So is the model. Details make things pop. There’s not a lot there to catch the eye. You don’t have any details for the wings to seem seperate but bolted on to the plane, same for the cockpit/visor. No engines. There’s no little lines for the light to catch to add intrest. For texturing, something less generic tiling would be a good start, decals would also be good on there. A normal map at this point would do nothing to enhance the detail, because there is no detail to be enhanced.

To finish on the upside tho, the basic shape is correct, and the dimensions seem to be good, so its a good jumping off point.

Show the wireframe i cant judge a 3d model without any info it looks pretty bad the texture is too simple add details if you want realism.
