So, I am about to use hosting and other Gaming Services for the first time and I could use some tips to avoid an outrageous bill. I was looking over the pricing and it was very familiar.
I remember, I did this course once… a COURSE for Amazon Web Services. The next month, I got charged over $600 for ONE MONTH of having an account (no live apps/websites), even though I thought I deleted everything and wasn’t using any resources. I was charged over $600 for being the ONLY USER using the resources for AWS. I was late paying rent that month.
So, whenever I see a pricing like you see in Unity Gaming Services, it makes me nervous.
Is there anything I need to watch out for to avoid a high bill?
If I put something in the update(), which updates every frame, is this going to create a huge amount of data causing a high bill?
Hey @faulknordonald . Completely understand and empathize with the need to see any surprise bills. The free tier for UGS is pretty large so you can try things out without entering a payment method and only enter it later to avoid any outages or bills altogether.
Once you break into the paid tier, you can use the budget alerts to avoid any surprise bills. You can find that feature here, Unity Cloud

Thanks for that information. I was unsure if I’d need my credit card details for the free tier. I don’t plan on needing more than what’s in the free tier for at least a year, unless by some miracle I can get enough users beyond that.
Yeah, also last year credit card was mandatory to get started, now you can trial the services without entering your payment method. Just to be on the safe side if you have an existing subscription, you can cancel that first.
