looking through models

Hello, I’m relatively new to Unity but I am working on learning it. I am having an issue when I import my models. I seem to look through my models when I face them. I am using Carrara 8 Pro but it happens when I import them from Maya as well. It also happens with obj and fbx file types. I put in my caveman and instead of looking AT his face, I was looking at the inside of the back of his head. The face and part of the nose was gone. I had a texture map on there but you couldn’t see where his mouth or eyes were or anything. However, if I move the camera to behind him, you can see his face through the back of his head. 0_o; Any ideas what the issue is? It’s not a zoom issue because it happens even when I zoom out. At first I thought it was because I used smoothing so I made a quick model without smoothing and it still happens.

Thanks in advance!

Sounds like your models have inverted faces – i.e. the face normals are pointing in the wrong direction. You probably need to flip the polygons in Carrara/Maya.

Do you think this has to do with Carrara’s Z axis facing up and not forward?

No, that would only affect the overall orientation of the model, not the orientation of individual faces.

Hmmm, all I do is use the dynamic extrusion tool. I don’t do anything too fancy. Any ideas on how I fix the polygons?

EDIT:

Nevermind, I figured it out. There is a Reverse Polygons Normal feature. Thanks for the help!
