Low FPS in standalone build

Hi all,

I’m struggling with probably a common issue but Im not able to find a suiltable aswer over the internet - when I run my scene in unity editor im getting like 120 FPS with ease, but when I build the game and use unity player to run it my framerate drops to ~30 FPS. I run my game in windowed mode and even tho the fps is low. I’ve noticed one more thing - even if i set the resolution to 640x480 and I maximize the window it does not rescale the image but it makes it … bigger so there is no difference in visual apperance if its run in window and full screen - i would expect it to rescale the image so i would see some pixels but its not happening.

I appreciate any help here…

Another thing I’ve noticed is that unity editor uses lik 90% of my GPU (checked the windows task manager) but the standalone player only roughly 30%.

Does it use the same quality tier?
Did you check the profiler?
Is there some sort of vsync?

Yes, I believe the quality settings are the same, even if i remove everything from the scene beside lights the fps stays at 30

That sounds like vsync. Could be in the nvidia (or other vendor) settings or your quality settings.
And don’t believe something is set, check the quality tiers. The green check is the one used in builds when starting.

Thanks  I’m gonna check that out a bit later.

But, even if I disable vsync, it’s there for some reason, right? I guess it gives this smoothness to the game, but… what is the joy of playing at 30 fps?

Vsync can be set on the driver level as well. You can also check the profiler to see performance numbers

I’ve just tried build with a “Balanced” quality level instead of “High Fidelity” and now I’m getting 60 fps on my counter, but still, it does not feel as smooth as in editor. I’m attaching a screenshot from my quality settings:

So as you can see I use High Fidelity for both editor and in standalone build. I tried playing with vsync settings but the difference is barely noticeable

Hmm, now I enabled vsync again, the same quality settings, just rebuilt it and im having a constant 60fps in the player  When i disable vsync - its going above 200 but then obviously GPU is busy for 100%. But hey, it seems it worked!
