hey guys, im currently working on a weapon to be used in game. Im aiming to create a low poly, but im wondering if i’ve already exeeded the boundrys. Can somone take a look at my img and tell me if i’ve gone over the top? thanks
Depends on what your game is. If its a first person game and your main character will have it right up to the camera, then higher is ok. It’s currently 600 triangles? A finished low polygon model can be between about 100-3000 polygons as low polygon is relative in its meaning. If it will be a small part of a detailed scene, I would make sure its under 500 polygons, especially if it’s a third person action game. I use the general rule of just enough to make it look like it should. Shaders can make things more smooth, so don’t worry too much of initial hard edges.
Edit: This is how I would outline the drawing to create the model. New red lines and larger blue dots to show each line. Hope this helps!

ah thats great man thanks alot! and yes itll be a 3rd person RPG so ill try and cut it down
also this many polygons makes it hard for me to cut it up in the UV XD cheers!
No problem. I hope the outline I made will serve you well. Good luck with your RPG project! Also, if its a bladed weapon a simple CUBE UV map should cover all sides sufficiently well, no need to slice it up and unravel it when applying textures from each side can easily be done.
well i was going to put cool trims in the textures ect and i find it hard to do this in a cube one, unless you can put it around the sqaure edge and itll automaticly fit to say a blade edge…
