Lumpy Height Maps

Hi all,

No problem making height maps here - 8 bit grayscale 1025x1025 at 150dpi, flip it and export photoshop as a raw file seems to work just fine - other than the fact the terrain surface is really lumpy. The general elevations of the terrain are correct, but the specifics are...well lumpy. If i reduce the height map down to two or three solid colors, i don't have the problem...but at any level of complexity i am just getting very odd results. Posting an answer to my own question:

Direct from Unity this is a bug with the goal for resolution in V3.1. Bummer, however, if you use the smooth tool, non-feathered brush set to 100% opacity and 100% size, you can clean up the "lumps" in about 15 minutes +/- of painting. No biggie in the grand scheme.
