Mac Mini Question

Sorry for the stupid question, but I just want to make sure:

How well does Unity iPhone run on a Mac Mini? I’m just about to purchase one(brand new), and I want to make sure everything will run great. Along with XCode and 3D programs.

Thanks!

the new mac minis are pretty strong (no comparision to the first ones for example), it will run all fine

Alright thanks a bunch man.

Ordering it later today straight from Apple.

i work on mac mini, everything works fine…

I’ve had mine for close to 2 years and it runs just fine. I did max out the memory after I bought it but that is the only thing I recommend.

Yea definitely. Once I make some money releasing games and apps, I’ll upgrade to the full 8GB allowed.

if you buy Kingston Mac focused ones, you can get them at a fraction of Apples lose of reality pricing fantasies ^^(thats how my MacBook Pro got to its max of 4gb)

i’ve done all my unity iphone dev on a mini; runs just fine. the only thing that hurts a bit is compiling large projects with additional libraries such as OpenFeint in XCode. A fancy new quad-core i7 iMac makes seconds of work out of what was 4-5 minutes for the core2duo mac mini.

I have run into an error for regular unity on the platform tutorial about sub shaders or something not supported by the mac minis graphics card . No errors for iphone development.

potentially you have a first generation one with the intel gpu. in that case yeah thats very well possible, that one was also not able to calculate occlusion culling in unity iphone 1.x

There isn’t “the” Mac mini graphics card; there have been a number of different models with different graphics. The latest one is reasonably capable for an integrated chip.

For regular Unity I will be using my regular computer. It’s a quad-core computer I recently built so there will be no problems.

i work with a mac mini (9400m video card) and it does the job fine

but to be honest by the time you get a decent keyboard/mouse/screen you would have spent almost enough to get a mac book with a 9400m or better card

I didn’t need a screen/keyboard/mouse though…so it was perfect.

Using a Mini with 2G ram, no problems
