Mac question

Does unity work with all macs meening does it matter if the mac has shared graphics? I wouldnt mind the mac pro, but if i can get away with using the mac mini or one of the laptops then ill do that to. The reason i ask is that i know some games cannot be played on laptops due to the imbeded graphics card it usualy has in it. Granted most of those games were made by pro studios, but id still like to be on the safe side. Do not tell me to stay with windows because im tired of their product.

it works with windows and mac, but the problems about intel = shit exists on both sides

the 9400m is better but its still and integrated (according benchmarks 3-5 times as fast as the old x3100)

i know unity itself runs on my netbook cause i got one and eventualy the islan demo smooths out on it.

I guess my question is if anyone ever formed a good size team with the proper license and tools could they remake Crysis or other high end games like that just using the mac mini or laptops or even the imac?

depends on which quality level. the lowest one potentially.
but thats it more or less I would guess.

Thanks for ur help again Dream

If you have that much money to make a game, the cost of the computers is negligible, and you should just get a bunch of Mac Pros.

that and thanks to the missing 32bit render targets on osx at all you would likely not even target the mac for something on that graphical level (nor would you likely use unity but Torque 3D or UDK, as they are fps focused and save you hundreds of hours even at worst)

No, not even if you were running Windows on it which you would have to do to make “Crysis”. More importantly, you’re going to want a development machine that is more than capable of running the final product.

If you’re tired of Windows and want to be on the safe side I’d even stay away from a Macbook Pro – go right for a Mac Pro which can handle all of your art and programming tasks. If you dual boot to Win and MacOS you can even test all your cross platform builds.

I’ve gotten by just fine with my Mini(w/9400). I’m also not targeting end users with bleeding edge gaming machines, however.

to be honest the main thing im concerned about is cross platform and how well it works, but eye candy doesnt hurt either lol.

We build off of a variety of Macs and Windows machines in our office and there hasn’t been any noticeable difference.
