Usually, on a Mac, Unity is installed inside /Applications and your project files will be stored in your documentation folder /Users/{you}/Documents. Uninstalling Unity will not delete any of your project files stored in your home folder. The only scenario I can think of where this might happen is if you stored your projects inside the Unity folder in /Applications. If you then dragged and dropped the Unity folder to the trash, then you’ll have deleted your work. It seems extremely unlikely that you’d store your projects in the Unity folder, and even less likely that you’d delete the Unity project without remembering that you are deleting your projects. But, that seems to be what you said you have done. So, seems like you’ve deleted your projects. As Ostwind says, get them back from TimeMachine. Once you have them again, move them into your home folder.
why in the world would you store personal files in an application folder, thats just bad organisation and a disaster waiting to happen and soon, apps are prone to be updated and its common practice that apps get swiped out before update, even app common files are stored in proper directories outside the app directory
To have multiple different versions of Unity installed, rename the Unity folder to something else first. e.g., if you had Unity 4.2.1 installed and wanted to keep it, rename the “Unity” folder to “Unity 4.2.1”, then install Unity 4.2.2. Saving user files into an application folder is a pretty strange thing to do; there’s a reason Unity defaults to your user folder when you create a new project.
leegod I think you looking for someone to blame…I think this is own mistake and not Unity mistake.
You should at least make new folders on desktop or someplace separate for project files.
I think you took some very strange and n00b option of saving files to Unity install folder.
Again blaming Mac pc is also wrong thing to do.
Then why mac does not allow choose installation folder? mac just allow choose install destination drive. Folder name is aleady decided by default and never tell that to user while install process.
Problem is Mac nor Unity does not let user know default installation folder [Name] is [Unity] and also there is no notice previous contents will be deleted.
And Mac does not notice exactly where install occur. While installation process.
Where saved my files is not my problem, because from the first user of mac’s point of view, he can’t know.
To windows os user, this is very confusing, because of pre-assumption.
of course he can feel something is strange, while I realize it, accident is already occured.
And it is mac’s problem or unity’s problem (if mac allow mac’s apps creator can make choosing process of install folder name),
and this is not related with my post count. Of course I know something about unity so far, but that does not mean I should know about mac as well.
