Just wanted to share some financial numbers for my games. I have two games, Demon’s Rise and Demon’s Rise 2 - Lords of Chaos, that I launched in the past year. Demon’s Rise 2 just launched last week. I didn’t get a feature from Apple but got some decent coverage from TouchArcade, PocketGamer and PocketTactics and in the past 7 days, have just made $4000 of sales. Naturally, the sales are declining steadily and it’ll be interesting to see where Demon’s Rise 2 flatlines. Demon’s Rise 1 usually makes about $15 a day a year after release but in the past 10 days, it’s been making about $75 a day.
All of this is just on the iOS App Store as a premium price app ($5 each). Here are links to the two games if you want to check them out. They are both hard-core RPG’s and not casual games in the least.
Demon’s Rise 2 - Lords of Chaos:
Demon’s Rise:
Both games are made with Asset Store assets only and with Unity Personal Edition. They are highly rated with Demon’s Rise getting a 4.75 / 5 average out of 100+ reviews and earning a 4 out of 5 star review from Touch Arcade. Both Touch Arcade and Pocket Tactics are working on reviews for Demon’s Rise 2 so it will be interesting to see how they score.
I’m overall happy with the numbers and I plan to keep making more. I’m working on a Sci Fi version and also a third Demon’s Rise game. Let me know your thoughts and opinions. I’m a one-man team and have done this all in my spare time over the past 3 to 4 years. Demon’s Rise 2 was made in about 9 months in my spare time.
I think Demon’s Rise has made around $10,000 since it launched last year. My goal is to keep making 1 or 2 games of this type each year for a few years. Reusing the same code base makes it much easier as I only have to make a few small changes to spice things up.
I’m hoping that each release increases audience and exposure and that eventually passive income will be enough for my wife to quit her job and spend more time with the kids. I don’t expect to make enough for me to quit my job.
Yeah … I have it working on my lg g4. However, it black screens on samsumg devices. I believe its a unity bug related to obb files. Trying to find a workaround.
Good work, it seems premium games may just be making a comeback. Some of the subreddits on mobile are seriously anti-IAP and seem to be recommending premium games more often than not.
It’s all well and good for the redditers to have a point of view, but the question is, does it translate to sales? What really matters is whether or not the average gamer decides to fork out money when they see your game on the app store.
Congrats to the OP, especially since this is not your run of the mill mobile game. Looks like a relatively sophisticated game as mobile games go, that’s graphically pretty good and well polished. But is this not the kind of game that would always do well as a premium product?
I’d love to see more of a willingness to go premium for the average gamer looking at your average mobile game, but it’ll take some convincing …
Well you have about 571 game sales and you shouldn’t expect sales to decline if those 571 enjoy the game as that’s not near market saturation. I hope you have Unity Analytics and such tools configured to help you learn what your players like or don’t like in playing your game so you can modify those assets to be something you and you audience finds more fun.
It’s mostly stuff from Arteria 3D, Mr. Necturus, Protofactor for the characters. Environments are Manufactura K4, Mana Station and a few others. Audio / sound effects are just picked out from the Asset Store (Evil Mind Entertainment, Michael LaManna, and some others).
I spend a LOT of time optimizing the 3D models for mobile so you have to be ready to do that with Asset Store stuff if you’re developing for mobile.
I second that! Anything you’d care to share would be awesome. I’m going to start being more active in marketing my games and would love to hear from mildly successful indies instead of from mega successful telling me to spend, spend, spend on marketing. I have no problem spending a little money on marketing, I just want to make sure I target the correct places!
