"Make my pokemon" - A new game idea

Hello fellow gamers n game enthusiasts !!

I’d a game idea I would love to get your comments on

How would you like to be play a “Make my pokemon” game, where you get to make your own “pokemon”, using simple menus and only available options ?? Eg, a simple visuals menu for creating face, body, eyes, etc. An audio menu to record its name. A powers menu with simple powers (like the singing power of jigglypuff that makes everybody sleep), etc. ? All the powers can be chosen only from already available options…but more options can be added in later versions, some may be at a small price or so.

The pokemon assets won’t be exportable, but can only be used in the game. For first version, the game would only provide some animations for the designed pokemon. For eg, the player can interact with it in a generic virtual world offered by the game; in later versions, the pokemon would be able to interact with each other pokemons…like participate in simple versus matches or contests…

Would love to hear your comments on it

I would say you are trying to get Suid? You don’t think The Pokemon Company is not going to protect their IP with obscene aggression?

You better change the name to Something like “Gems” but they will be the Barbie to your Gem.

So basically making a game out of the creature creator from spore? Could work. How are your programming skills? That sort of customisation is a big job.

Ohhh ya you’re right !! didn’t think of it before posting. I apologize if this idea offended any pokemon fans, am a big fan of it myself…

Ya name changing might work…but then, seems like my idea would probably only work for a well established franchise…which has copyrights so i probably can’t use it the way i want for mobile games. And a new franchise might take significantly more effort to first make popular before such mobile game spinoffs would make any money from them…

Did they change the licensing for that? I read it a long time ago, said pretty clearly you can’t use them.

Obviously he can’t use Pokemon. Unless you have a successful track record and several million dollars, it’s not even worth asking the question.

But there is no reason he can’t do something similar with his own IP.

Listen to Kiwasi. I think he is using Pokemon as a good example. AS far as I can see it, is like a monster customization. like… a giant fire lizard xD.

Was refering to the spores that time.

That IP belongs to Maxis EA.

I think its great what I am trying to hint to here is be a bit more careful with your comparisons you will give them big boys ideas.

Maxis EA has no IP rights over the idea of a creature creator.

You mentioned the game. Sigh

As a comparison. Chill.

So what? There is no problem in mentioning game names. How else can one have a reasonable conversation about games without mentioning specific games? Mentioning a name when talking about a game is not breaking any IP laws.

Making a clone of a game is not breaking any IP laws either.

guys, have you heard about this game engine… ummm… well, this one that is not Unity, but is heavier and works with blue prints, its name is… Un, Unreal… I can’t continue this conversation, sorry.

But again, following the topic. With any random “creature creator” I would start with a mockap of the UI. Have you put your step on that zone?

Also mentioning trademarked words in casual conversation is permitted.

I wouldn’t bother with UI and would start with actual meat of customization system. once the system is done, it is time to make an UI.

Will these “Pokemon” eat other Pokemons ??? Cause that would be cool lol.

The pokemon clones and like games are big hits, very popular. Even when the MMO is very poor in graphics, even worse than the gameboy advance versions. You can do a search on the internet and find them, and see how big their fan base is.

Like others said in this post, you must do something about copyright infringement.

I can’t see how this would not break the formula. You would simply make the best possible monsters and cut out 20 hours of play time finding and building the perfect team, wreck the bosses and quickly grow bored with the game. Rather than offering 150 well-balanced monsters that break down into different tiers of strength, you wind up with a mess. Your entire game would have to revolve around content-management for limiting their ability to make their own Pokemon, ensuring that they have to “earn” parts and moves, etc. You also eliminate the concept of building a friendship with the Pokemon, since you didn’t choose them, raise them and grow together with them… you made them in a lab and will discard them as soon as you can make a better version of them.

I’m assuming you wanted some feedback on your idea.

See no mans sky for some amalgamations that might change you mind about this idea.

Also this might help - though remove the pokemon name.
