MakeHuman 0.9 for OS X available

I just gave it a go and I’m impressed! The ui is a bit unconventional, but it works pretty nicely. I posed my model and then imported the model into Blender. Hit the “subsurf” modifier if you want a gorgeous mesh, or hit the “poly reducer” script to reduce the mesh down to size. I tried the latter and even at 5000 poly’s it still looked decent (thought it would need some cleaning up).

yeah it’s pretty cool. they’re doing some cool stuff.

10.3.9 users be aware the installer throws errors but it still works. just doesn’t give you a nice packaged install. just gives you the contents directory. double click the unix exe in the macos folder and it should launch. also when saving an obj, make sure you type a name in or it will save as .obj which of course will be hidden in the finder.

anyway… it’s a really great outcome after a lot of hard work those guys put in!

Yeah, and the mesh is better optimized than those exported from Poser. As you say, a run through the poly reducer and you end up w/ ~ 5k mesh that still looks good, whereas Poser models suffer badly from poly reduction, and still weigh in at 10K or more afterwards.

Now we just need a way to get the rig into Blender. And then full collada support to get the rigged character into Unity!

Yay… that’s a wonderful tool. Exactly what I was searching!

Thx for the hint.
