Making 3d games on your own

Is it possible to make a good looking 3d game on your own because i noticed yesterday while looking at some games i have on my ipod touch that when looking at the credits there are usally about 5+ people working on the game.

If you’re passionate enough why not. But if you will work alone, you should know programming, modeling, sound design, level design, etc… really well. Otherwise you lose your patience and passion after a while. Game development requires a lot of self-sacrifice its not an easy job. You’re saying 5+ people. 5+ very knowledgeable person can make a lot of difference.

Thanks for your reply I really whould like to learn programming, modeling and level design but im not to sure about sound design.
Ive been researching ther internet to say how i could make music for my games and i couldnt find any good infomation about it, how whould i make the sound/music for my game?

Possible? Yes. Easy? Definitely not. I’m an independent developer but I do contract out some components like audio.

It also depends on what sort of game you’re making. I could easily see a decent programmer slapping together a game like Tetris on their own. Very minimal art needs, and aside from background music almost no audio. An artist might be more suited to make a still-frame adventure game like Myst. Unless you start adding puzzles, the programming is little more than “Load next image when I click here.” A more complex game, like an RPG for example, would be extremely difficult to do solo.

It depends entirely on what kind of game you want to produce.

Keep it simple - one person can achieve a good result with Unity provided they know the basics of writing code and designing models/graphics. The most important thing is to have a clear vision of what you want to create and to work towards it methodically.

If you don’t know how to produce the music/sfx for your game you would be better off finding somebody who does. There are loads of semi-professional musicians out there who would be happy to help for a little cash or simply to promote their music.

Yup!! Just chiming in on this post to say that it takes ALOT of work and sacrifice (YOU WILL LOSE A LOT OF SLEEP). I am currently developing my 3D app and its taken a while since I am an 3D artist so I have to be constantly learning new code and such to achieve what I want. I have been in developing my game fully since around April, and now its October and I seemed to have barely scratched anything. At this point in time I should be sleeping but here I am…lol
