Making a model pack to sell

This will be our first product, and I plan on having a good amount of models in it, but their will be no textures. It will be cheap due to no textures, but it will be worthy for those trying to make a modern war game. So, time to get some pics in here

Here are two models made by me

Here is a fountain made by our modeler Mark

Good point, thanks for mentioning.

Alright, had him remake it in blender.

And here is a grenade I just finished for this.

Here is a shed I just made.

Here is a trash can I just made and textured, will be the only textured model.

I think if you plan to be successful with your model pack, you really need to supply textured. Model packs help game creators visualise a scene, and if the models contain no textures, and they have no way themelves of texturing the models, this ‘may’ put them off purchasing and i wouldnt want that to happen for you on your first pack.

Hope it all works out

Hey, thanks for the reply, means a lot coming from a true pro at model packs
I will say to you what I said to those in the RCS community though. Hold on let me get that quote.

“Maybe I will sell it for a dollar. That could get something, besides, our Modern Pack 2 and all our other packs will be textured. This is going to raise awareness to us and hopefully get a texture designer to stumble upon us, cause we truly need one.”

NEW PLAN: I am gonna make it free, release it to get our name out, all our other packs will cost money, and will include textures. This pack will include one video as well, to introduce my team, and the rest of it to teach some uv texturing, will include a texture for the gun, and will show them how to do it. So, I think it will be a huge success

NEWER PLAN: learn how to model correctly first. To be completely honest, you should really use less polygons for simple stuff, like a doorknob, and grenade. Remember, you can always bake a normal map from a high-poly version and add it to your low-poly version to make them look more detailed (This is very easy to do in blender). Also, use smooth shading-- even a high poly model can look flat if you shade it solid. I don’t want to come off as harsh with my criticism, as your likely just a kid, but if you lean good techniques first, you wont get stuck with bad modeling habits. Good luck, and keep learning.

Just some comments on these. Definately texture them, the trash can actually looks good with the texture on it, but, honestly it doesn’t look like a trash can. You might be eager to get stuff out there, but if you rush it, the quality wont be there, so instead of getting yourself some good advertising, your just going have people either not want or look for your products, or simply ask for freebies.

That said, nothing wrong with releasing cheap products, there are 2 rules for pricing you should keep in mind. 1, your product is only worth what people will pay for it, and 2, its easier to lower the price of something than raise.

If you are serious about releasing a modeling pack, pick a theme. Make a list of items you feel you can produce for it. Get some solid references - use the web, walk around your neighborhood take some pictures, Build your models, feel free to show off the progress and get suggestions. Put some time into those textures! Its not about them being cheap or not its showing you have the skills to complete the models, and that will get you more business in the long run then producing unfinished work.

After all this good feedback, from here, the RCS and RCP forums, I decided to make it free. So all this stuff you guys said will help me after, btw thanks for the advice larvantholos

The grenade look nice.
