I want to create distant mountains to place in my scenes. From what I can tell about other distant mountain packs such as - Unity Asset Store - The Best Assets for Game Making
That these mountains are mesh objects. How does one go about converting terrain into a mesh object?
I’m guessing they don’t - sounds like they are mesh objects created in (Maya, Blender, etc) then imported into Unity. So, get Blender assuming you don’t have access to $$$ 3D prog, create big mountain with some material/textures and import that into Unity.
@Montreseur you can do that by simply exporting the heightmap, cavity, textures (colour map / erosion map) from World Machine.
- Heightmap to Mudbox or Zbrush and export as a highpoly mesh obj.
- Make the low poly in 3Ds Max or Maya.
- Unwrap the UVs of the low poly.
- Bake Ambient Occlusion and Normals from Highpoly to Lowpoly
- Edit the rest of the colour maps in PS or Gimp.
That should get you a decent, mountain unless you want to go all ham and cheese then you’ll have to do a bit of experimenting on your own.
Hope this helps,
