malfunction: grabbing tool?

I’ve been using UNITY happily for a few weeks then today I ve gone into the grab mode on the left hand- side of the toolbar (holding down the right mouse button zooms in and out too) and it’s not working. It’s become really difficult to manoevre around the scene when placing objects etc.

Is this likely to be a bug or maybe something in the settings that Ive done without realising it? I’m using windows XP btw if thats helpful.

Make sure you are in iso view… (in the upper right corner the xyz persp gizmo.) Click the square in the middle when it turns yellow.
Happened to me when my brother was messing with a scene.

I seem to have sorted it but the zoom function still allows zooming in only in some instances and not others…not sure why this is…
