Hey there!
I am currently looking for a good mapmaking tool.
I want to create interior environement:
- Sci-Fi (Old, abandoned spaceships)
- Horror (Schools, Asylums, Hospitals)
- Houses
Criterions:
- Free or paid, not sooo important (I have Autodesk programs for free because I’m a student)
- Not too hard to learn.
- Fully compatible with Unity (I don’t want to re-assign all textures after importing, for example)
I won’t make props, I’ll use some from the Asset Store, I just want to create maps.
Thanks in advance for your tips!
Although I’ve only been using it for a little while I really like Google Sketch Up so far. It works well with Unity and in my opinion is super easy to use. As for file extensions… Well that’s what I came here to find out actually, but from the little bit of testing I’ve done OBJ works the best.
I highly recommend procore as well. Since you have student licenses for autodesk products, you could take a look at the export2maya package as well ( which allows you to export a whole scene (some stuff isnt transferrable yet, but its great in case you need to do some edits in maya.
