Market Analysis and cost calculations

Hello all!

I am currently developing a mobile game and I am trying to get funding for my project but I am facing one problem; every investor wants to see a plan, costs, target audience, ROI etc. I cant and dont know how ro calculate all of these things. I tried to contact some game dev companies and they told me that the concept is very unique and there are no similar games to compare in order to calculate ROI, income etc.

I am writing here in order to hear from your experience what are my options in that case? What are you guys doing in that case? I want to say that developing this game is something I cannot do by myself, if act a lot of mobile game-dev companies refused even to take this project because of its complexity. So building the game alone it is unfortunatelly not something I can do

Thank you in advance!

Hi, I was worried this might be another case of the idea guy wanting other people to make a game for them (normally AI related). But then I just checked your previous post, so it sounds like:

  • Your 27 years old
  • You wrote a 200 page Game Design Document
  • It’s a game idea you’ve had for over 10 years.
  • You created all the 3D assets for the game.
  • You already have most assets like music and animations
  • It’s an AR game with GPS.
  • You just need a programmer to help make the game.
  • You’ve had some part time programmers (probably free) working on it in the past but it hasn’t worked out.

That all sounds good, I feel like it might have been worth mentioning this as more people will be willing to help if you’ve already done a lot of the work. Unfortunately, I don’t think you’re going to have much luck with investors. Most investors will only support well known companies or people, unless they’re a friend or family member. And even then it’s normally only for safe investments for well known genres. If it’s really not comparable to other games then I can’t see how you’ll get stats for it. This can also be a major problem when you publish the game e.g. your game needs to be in some genres for players to find it in the store.

I’d suggest looking into grants instead, Unreal has megagrants for example. Depending where you live there might also be government rebate schemes. But then you might need to modify the game to match some requirements. If you’ve got the art ready then you might also have a chance with kickstarter. I feel like a video game lawyer might have better advice about funding.

Hello,

Thank you very much for your reply. It might be a great idea to start with the grants, atleast for the prototype at this stage. My prorblem again is that in some of the grants, they are asking for this business analysis document.
Anyway, as I see it I dont have much choice, however I will try to go for it. I will check Megagrants for now, thanks again!
