Mass Tree Placement Slowing Down FPS

I’m relatively new to Unity and am currently working on a project that involves a very lush forest. I noticed that my editor was lagging severely and started to take a look at my FPS rate. Through trial and error I determined that my mass placement of trees was causing the huge drop in my FPS. How do I still create a lush forest environment with a large quantity of trees without severely damaging my FPS?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Use low poly trees and fast leaf shaders. Use different LOD levels depending on how close they are. With too many lush trees your problem is probably that the fillrate of your GPU limits your performance, drawing all those transparent leaf textures eventually becomes costly.
